
Adjunct Associate Professor Raj Reddy manages a broad range of neurosurgical conditions, both cranial and spinal. He has a special interest in spine surgery, with a focus on degenerative spinal conditions and spinal tumours. His cranial surgery focuses on the management of brain tumours and craniofacial conditions in adults and children. He employs minimally invasive techniques and complex reconstructive surgery.
He holds neurosurgical appointments at Prince of Wales Private and St Vincent’s Private Hospitals. He is Deputy Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Prince of Wales Hospital, having served as the Head of Department from 2014 to 2023. As Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW Engineering, School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, he researches neurosurgical engineering.
His primary consulting rooms are at Prince of Wales Private Hospital. He also consults in Caringbah, Sutherland Shire, and sees patients in regional centres.
Through his appointments at Prince of Wales Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, and his affiliation with UNSW, he is involved in the undergraduate teaching of medical students and the postgraduate training of neurosurgical registrars.
Education and training
A/Prof Reddy graduated from the University of Sydney in 1999. After his internship at Westmead Hospital, he spent two years completing general and subspecialty surgical terms, followed by three years of general surgery and neurosurgery registrar positions.
He commenced neurosurgical training in 2005 and completed this in 2009, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. During his neurosurgical training, he also participated in research into the radiosurgical treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations with Professor Marcus Stoodley, and attained a Master of Surgery from UNSW in 2010.
Following a locum neurosurgery appointment at Prince of Wales Hospital, A/Prof Reddy undertook further specialist training through two fellowships in North America. In 2010, he completed a fellowship in complex spine surgery at Toronto Western Hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto. During this period, he combined working as clinical fellow with teaching responsibilities and clinical research. In 2011, he completed a fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.

He is a professional member of several medical and neurosurgical associations, including the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA), Spine Society of Australia (SSA), American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), North American Spine Society (NASS) and International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN).
